Situated on a 12,000 acre working cattle station in the Scenic Rim of South East Queensland country just an hour's drive from Brisbane and 90 minutes from the Gold Coast, Spicers Hidden Vale offers an exclusive Outback Australian accommodation getaway. By car it is a 60-minute drive from Brisbane on the Cunningham Highway and 50 minutes to the East of Toowoomba. Alternatively, guests can take a luxury coach or limousine transfer from Brisbane, or a train to Rosewood. Nearby, Toowoomba and the Darling Downs offer something for everyone, from boutique wineries, stylish cafes and heritage exhibitions to rugged national parks, spectacular lookouts and gracious old hotels. The adventurous traveler can experience the region from a different perspective embarking on a four-wheel drive tour or even skydiving. There is a vast array of markets and country drives for those wanting to explore at a slower more relaxed pace.

The Southern Downs and the Granite Belt is Queensland’s premier wine growing region with over 48 boutique wineries as well as an abundance of fresh produce and gourmet foods waiting to be discovered.

The region is also home to spectacular National Parks and during the summer months, host to fabulous events including the Granite Belt Blues, Vine to Divine, Sicilian Vintage Lunch and the Killarney Paragliding Classic.

From Brisbane
Take the Ipswich Motorway (following signs towards Ipswich and Toowoomba). Then take the Cunningham Highway exit (to Warwick and Amberley RAAF Base). After 17kms, turn right onto Ipswich Rosewood Rd (following signs to Rosewood). After a further 11kms turn right at School St following signs to Marburg and Grandchester. Pass over a set of train tracks and turn left at the roundabout (following signs to Laidley). Go through the township of Grandchester and over railway tracks - following the signs to Spicers Hidden Vale - that will lead you onto Mt Mort Rd. Continue along Mt Mort Rd for a further 6kms and you’ll find Spicers Hidden Vale on the right hand side.


From Toowoomba

Exit Toowoomba following Warrego Highway towards Brisbane. Follow the Warrego Highway for 51kms until you reach a town called Plainland. Turn right at Plainland following the signs to Laidley (Laidley–Plainlands Rd). Continue along this road for 9kms and head through the township of Laidley, until you reach a T intersection (Laidley-Rosewood Rd). Turn left here following signs to Grandchester. Once over the range, continue along until you see the welcome sign for Grandchester. Follow this along and take the next right turn, Mt Mort Rd, seeing the signs for Spicers Hidden Vale. Continue up this road for 6kms and the Retreat will be on your right with a big white gate. Proceed straight up the driveway to Reception.


Directions from Spicers Hidden Vale to Spicers Peak Lodge

  1. Turn right out of SHV to head to Spicers. Keep going until you reach the dirt road and see a speed sign. Slow down and you will see Greys Plain Road. Turn left into this road (there is a small fire station on the corner).
  2. Follow this road until you come to a T junction. Turn right. (still dirt road)
.
  3. Follow this road until you hit the bitumen. Turn right again.
  4. This will take you all the way to Aratula.
  5. Turn Right at Aratula.

6. Your destination is Cunningham’s Gap which is the pass through the Mountains. This is a reasonably steep road and used by a lot trucks.
  6. When you reach the top of the Cunningham’s Gap, (do not take the sign to Spicers Gap – keep going and proceed along for about another 5km until you see a Service station on your left hand side.
  7. Continue along and take the next turn to the left (about 4 km) into South Branch Road. (approx 12 kms to the very top to the lodge).
  8. Proceed up the hill and through the cattle grid.
  9. Continue along this road and turn the next on the left- Gross Road and then right into Wilkinsons Road. Proceed straight along this road and up the Hill to the top.
  10. When you reach the top proceed to the Lodge which is the large building.

Directions from Spicers Peak Lodge to Spicers Hidden Vale

  1. Take the road down from Spicers Peak until you get to a T junction of Wilkinsons Road and Gross road. Turn left.
  2. Follow this road until you come to a T junction. Turn right. (still dirt road).
  3. Follow this road until you hit the bitumen. (again, another T junction called South Branch Road and Cunningham highway. Turn right again.
  4. This will take you all the way to Aratula.
  5. Turn Left at Aratula at Moffat’s Fruit Barn. This will take you to Tarome.
  6. Your destination is then Rosevale. After passing the quaint Rosevale Pub on the right hand side, you will pass Schinke Road. Just after this road take the sign to Grandchester (pointing to the left).
  7. Drive along this road for approx 10 kms until you come to another turn off again to the left marked Grandchester. This road is called Grey Plains Road. Continue along until you get to another T Junction. There will be a small fire station on the left. Turn right into Mount Mort Road.
  8. Proceed along the dirt until you hit bitumen and again dirt. Head up the hill on the rise, watch for the sign to Spicers Hidden Vale turning in to the left.
  9. When you reach the top proceed to the Retreat which is the large cluster of buildings at the end of the dirt road. Reception will be on the left hand side past the tennis court. Welcome to Spicers Hidden Vale!
